Seña was born in 1995 from a historic partnership between Eduardo Chadwick, heir to one of Chile’s most prominent winemaking families, and Robert Mondavi, a pioneer of Californian wine. Together, they created Chile’s first iconic wine, with the ambition of standing alongside the world’s greatest labels. The project took shape in the Aconcagua Valley, northwest of Santiago, a region blessed by the cooling influence of the Humboldt Current and the nearby Andes Mountains.
The vineyard, farmed according to biodynamic principles, lies on north-facing hills with poor, colluvial soils that yield wines of great concentration and finesse. Seña is a Chilean take on the Bordeaux blend, predominantly composed of Cabernet Sauvignon and Carmenère, with varying amounts of Malbec, Petit Verdot, and Cabernet Franc. The wine is fermented in a mix of stainless steel and oak vats, and aged for around 22 months in French oak barrels, a significant portion of which are new.
Seña is a wine of depth and complexity, seamlessly combining elegance, power, and authenticity. Ripe black fruits, sweet spices, graphite, tobacco, and a mineral finish tell the story of a unique terroir and a visionary project.
