Number one champagne in the world, now known as Krug Grande Cuvée, is the most generous expression of Champagne and is recreated every year, regardless of climate variations. Krug Grande Cuvée is an assembly of over 120 wines selected from more than 10 different vintages. Its finesse is due to a further 6 months rest in the cellar. It takes over twenty years to produce a bottle of Krug.
It is precisely the combination of vintage varieties that gives a fullness of flavors and aromas that cannot be expressed with wines from a single harvest. It's like listening to the perfect harmony of an entire orchestra.
Maison Krug was founded in November 1843, after the harvest of that year. It can therefore be assumed that the first Krug harvest occurred in 1844, at which time Joseph Krug gave birth to the first realization of his dream. Thus Krug Grande Cuvée was born.
The first recreation of Krug Grande Cuvée - the first Édition - was therefore created starting from the 1845 harvest. Every year and only once a year, a new creation is born, a single blend, a single bottling and therefore a new edition of Krug Grande Cuvée.
