Giacomo Conterno - Barolo riserva "Monfortino" 1969

The Barolo Monfortino Riserva presents itself in the glass with a bright and iridescent garnet red colour. The nose is a touching portrait of Langa, which is revealed gradually and in a whispered manner. The dog rose, the violet, the cherry: it's all there in this hymn to classicism, although talking about descriptors is almost reductive given the harmony and cohesion of the perfumes. The tasting is experiential, a real cyclone that conquers the palate, filling it with grace and power at the same time. The displacement of the liquid allows it to travel very far, fading into an eternal persistence.

Monfortino is an almost mythological Barolo, absolutely majestic, considered among the best red wines in the world. It is born in the best years from the best Nebbiolo grapes of the Francia cru. Vinified in wood, it matures in large barrels for more than 6 years. A piece of the Langa, deep and territorial, just like the winery founded by the Conternos in 1900 without ever losing the classic and austere interpretation of a vine as suitable as Nebbiolo. The first Monfortino label appeared in 1924, to underline the location of the vineyards located in Monforte d'Alba, while since 1974 the wine has been obtained entirely from the Vigna Francia of Serralunga D'Alba.
