Giacomo Conterno - Barolo Cascina Francia 1998
Giacomo Conterno - Barolo Cascina Francia 1998
SKU:
Giacomo Conterno's Barolo “Francia” is one of the 'big names', one of those in front of which we take our hats off and raise a round of applause. Finesse, complexity, austerity, depth and elegance weave the fabric of this red, suited to nobility due to its origins. It is no coincidence, in fact, that Barolo is known throughout the world for being 'the King of wines and the wine of Kings'. When tasting expressions like that of Giacomo Conterno, one cannot help but agree with the men who coined this epithet.
Giacomo Conterno Barolo “Francia” originates from the vineyard of the same name, located south of Serralunga d'Alba. Historically, Barolos come from this area of the denomination which play their characteristics on power, strength and body. They are Barolos of structure and complexity, full of expressive intensity but always dedicated to the finesse and class that distinguishes them. The ancient Francia vineyard extends over 14 hectares, dominated by soil with a predominantly calcareous composition. The harvest is preceded by a careful selection carried out already during the pruning phase, which allowed only one bunch to be left for each shoot. Once brought to the cellar, the grapes are softly pressed and the must obtained is subjected to long macerations which can last up to 30 days. The fermentation phase takes place inside untoasted Austrian wooden vats. It is then sent for refinement, inside oak barrels of various sizes, for a period of 48 months. A final stop in the bottle makes it ready for marketing.
Ruby red colour; enveloping hints of cherry, strawberry, mint and liquorice with great aromatic progression. Decisive, harmonious, of great elegance and persistence.
