Château Musar is the most famous and important Lebanese winery. It was created in 1930 by Gaston Hochar, with the desire to merge the very ancient traditions of local viticulture, which date back 6,000 years, with the knowledge and experiences acquired during his travels to Bordeaux. The link with the Bordeaux region strengthened during the period of the 1920s, when Lebanon was under French mandate.

Relations with the legendary region of southwestern France were strengthened thanks to Serge Hochar, son of Gaston, who followed Emile Peynaud's lectures at the University of Oenology in Bordeaux. Returning to his homeland, Serge became the oenologist of the family winery with the desire to begin producing great wines, capable of competing with the best excellences on a global level. Despite the complicated political and military vicissitudes that have marked the life of Lebanon for decades, and which still heavily influence it, the estate is known and appreciated throughout the world, thanks to a high-end production, which has nothing to envy of that coming from the most famous and highly rated terroirs.

The origins of Lebanese viticulture date back to the Phoenicians, who were among the first to domesticate and cultivate vitis vinifera, to produce wine and market it along the Mediterranean Sea routes. The Bekaa Valley represents one of the oldest areas where vines were planted and a symbol of a now legendary place. In continuity with this tradition, today Château Musar manages an estate of 220 hectares located mostly in the Bekaa Valley.

The vineyards are located at an altitude of around 1,000 meters and enjoy a cool and ventilated climate, as well as excellent sunshine. All harvests are carried out manually and fermentations take place spontaneously with native yeasts. The wines are an authentic expression of a great terroir.
