Château Lascombes is a historic estate located in the heart of the esteemed Margaux appellation on Bordeaux's Left Bank. Classified as a Deuxième Grand Cru Classé (Second Growth) in the renowned Official Bordeaux Wine Classification of 1855, Lascombes boasts a rich history tracing back to the 17th century with Chevalier Antoine de Lascombes.

The estate is one of the largest in Margaux, with extensive vineyards spanning exceptionally diverse terroirs, characterized by clayey gravels and clay-limestone soils. This unique terroir contributes to the complexity and depth of the wines produced. Traditionally, Château Lascombes was known for a prevalence of Merlot in its blend—a less common feature in the Médoc—complemented by Cabernet Sauvignon and Petit Verdot. Recent significant changes include its acquisition in 2022 by Gaylon Lawrence, an American entrepreneur, and the winery being led by Axel Heinz, formerly instrumental in the success of Masseto in Bolgheri. The estate has also invested in a new, state-of-the-art winery, completed in 2021, which employs rigorous grape selection and stainless steel vinification, followed by barrel aging to ensure utmost precision and quality.

The Château Lascombes 1993 represents a Margaux of great finesse, hailing from a vintage that, while not universally celebrated as exceptional in Bordeaux, produced wines with a distinctive character for those who appreciate its nuances. This wine embodies the refined elegance and complexity typical of its appellation, offering a classic and mature tasting experience.

On the nose, it presents a bouquet that expresses a combination of ripe red fruit with subtle notes of licorice, vanilla, and a delicate toasted touch from barrel aging. On the palate, it is a medium-bodied wine with well-integrated tanninsthat provide structure and softness. Although the 1993 vintage in Bordeaux was generally impacted by less-than-ideal climatic conditions, this Lascombes is an example of how a Cru Classé can still deliver a harmonious and lively wine, with a good expression of its terroir.
