Château Branaire-Ducru, classified as a Fourth Growth in 1855, is a historic estate located in the heart of Saint-Julien. Its origins trace back to the 17th century as part of Château Beychevelle, and its current name derives from the Duluc (later Ducru) family, who built the château in 1824 and secured its classification. Since 1988, under the Maroteaux family, the estate has undergone modernization focused on excellence, boasting approximately 60 hectares of deep gravelly soils. The primary grape varieties are Cabernet Sauvignon (65%), Merlot (28%), Petit Verdot (4%), and Cabernet Franc (3%). A second wine, Duluc de Branaire-Ducru, is also produced.
The 1993 Château Branaire-Ducru is a mature and elegant Bordeaux. It offers a simple yet expressive bouquet of fruit, spices, and earthy notes. On the palate, it is harmonious, with well-integrated tannins and an amiable approach.
